As I gradually continue to make changes to my living room, turning this empty corner is next on the list for a bit of an overhaul with a DIY blanket ladder.

I’ve wanted a blanket ladder for a while but wanted to be careful how I styled it. I’ve seen some rooms with blanket ladders and loved it, and others where it looked a little too country or stuffy.

Blanket Ladder Plans

I eventually settled on these blanket ladder DIY plans from A Burst of Beautiful. I followed the instructions almost exactly, although I used pocket hole screws underneath each rung to attach instead of screwing from the outside, so the screws weren’t visible. Then I stained the ladder in Early American by Rustoleum.

This blanket ladder achieves form over function, as I only have one blanket on it. But an overly stuffed ladder with perfectly folded blankets didn’t have the relaxed and cozy look I was going for.

Most of the blankets we would use to cover up and relax on the couch are in the basket next to the ladder. It’s nice because the blankets can be thrown right into the basket when we want to tidy up.

I am slightly obsessed with the throw on the ladder from Home Goods. It has a mix of creams, grays, and light pink. I think it adds a subtle touch of spring to the room. Also, how many tasseled throws are too many? Because I can’t seem to stop buying them!

I recently purchased the floor lamp from West Elm during a sale. It was a splurge, but I think the concrete base and unique lines add some interest to the space. I am on the fence as to whether it is too modern to be next to the ladder, but I am going to leave it there for now.

I’ve always been a little intimidated to tile anything. I love the way tile looks, but it seemed complicated. Tiling the fireplace surround seemed like the perfect project to tile for the first time. Fireplace Progress My fireplace and built-in wall have been quite the process so far! If you’d like to check out some […]
